As I reflected on my strengths, I realized that I use them on a daily basis. I never realized how much I actually use my strengths until I began to think about my life in general. For example, my top strength was “Spirituality, sense of Purpose, and faith”, and I really believe that this strength is not only strength, but a force that drives and motivates my everyday choices. I feel like my strengths, or what I like to call God given abilities, are to help others understand their strengths. I understand my sense of purpose, and I would like everyone to discover what their God given strengths are in order for them to live a fulfilled life.
As I reflected on my second strengths “Hope, optimism, and future-mindedness”, I realize that I also hold these values very important in my everyday life. As a counselor, I really have hope that students will make wise decisions that will benefit them in the long run. I would like to share this hope with students, since I feel like students lose hope in themselves at times. I am also very optimistic about what students can accomplish, the problem becomes when they do not believe they can accomplish anything. One of my goals as a counselor, and as a person in general, is to be able to help students become the best they can be. I really believe this will make a better society for all of us to live in. I feel like many students end up making wrong choices because they do not feel like they have much of a future. I really believe that if we can instill hope that they can succeed, these students will make a radical transformation.
Some of my other strengths were, “Gratitude”, “Capacity to love and be loved”, fairness, equity, and justice”. I believe all of these are values which I live by everyday. These are some of the strengths that will affect my personal career and how I relate to others. The more I reflected on why I wanted to become a counselor, the more I realized that I was just responding to my strengths, or what I like to call my God given abilities. I believe these strengths will lead me into continuing to help those students that need support and some type of guidance. If we can expose the students to various career choices and encourage them to continue exploring, we are making a big impact on students. I will continue to use those strengths that I have in order to try and make this world a better place for all to live in.
